Coach Training in Norwegian Esports

NESF is currently collaborating with several partners to develop Norway’s first comprehensive digital coach training program—tailored to grassroots esports based on the official model of the Norwegian Sports Confederation (NIF). Here you can view the framework and the goals we are working toward.

Create a sense of security and quality in the club

Today, many coaches report feeling uncertain about how to plan sessions, support athletes, and create a positive environment within their clubs. We want to address this. Through the project “Coach Training in Esports,” our goal is to provide you, as a coach, with concrete tools you can immediately apply in your daily club activities. Through this training, you’ll gain expertise in both game-related and interpersonal skills: how to build positive training environments, lead groups, promote health and quality of life, and actively foster inclusion and a sense of safety.

Our Future Education Model

This is the competency framework that NESF is currently developing for Norwegian esports.
The courses are currently being developed, and here you can see the framework that will soon be available.

Coach 1 | Esports

The first step on the coaching path. Focuses on basic teaching methods, activity leadership, a safe environment, inclusion, and health in children’s and youth sports. Specifically aimed at volunteer coaches in community sports clubs.

Coach 2 | Esports

For those who want to go deeper. Focuses on advanced training theory, tactical understanding in various games, long-term player development, physical training for gamers, and performance psychology.

Digital and Flexible Educational Pathways

All theory is presented as digital e-learning modules featuring text, video, and interactive exercises, combined with practical assignments at the club level. The content is developed by the Norwegian Esports Federation (NESF) in close collaboration with the Grassroots Esports Alliance and Aktive Gamere, before being ported to NIF’s official e-learning platform, Snapper by Akilles. This is how we are integrating esports into the established competency framework of Norwegian sports.
