The background is that both the Bredde E-sport Alliance and NESF, at their general assembly on March 25, 2026, voted to merge the organizations.
The work is now entering a new phase, and the current consulting agreement with Heitmann’s company is coming to an end. April will be the last month in the current role.
Heitmann says he looks back on that period as both exciting and educational.
– It has been an exciting opportunity to contribute to NESF during an important phase of its development. I have particularly appreciated the work on the application for admission to the Norwegian Sports Confederation, which has been both challenging and very meaningful, and which I believe will help ensure that NESF becomes a member once the initiatives currently underway are gradually implemented ,” he says.
He also points out that this period has given him a clearer picture of the opportunities inherent in esports and gaming.
“It’s been very interesting to learn more about esports and gaming from the inside. I’ve seen significant potential—not only commercially, but also socially and in terms of prevention. This is a field that means a lot to many people and that can foster a sense of community, a sense of accomplishment, and new opportunities, ” says Heitmann.
His resignation is in line with the understanding reached between him and the union’s presidency and executive board.
– “I’ve had a good dialogue with the president ever since Ole took office, regarding my continuing in this role until the merger with the broad-based alliance was approved. Now that the decision has been made, this feels like a natural time to step down from the role of secretary general,” he says.
At the same time, Heitmann emphasizes that he appreciates the fact that NESF still wants him to continue in a different capacity.
– “I really appreciate that NESF wants me to remain part of the team, albeit in a more behind-the-scenes role. We’ll discuss the details later, but I see this as a very positive development,” he says.
President Ole Rogstad Jørstad thanks Heitmann for his efforts.
– “Jarle has done a very solid job for NESF during a period when the federation needed structure, capacity, and strategic development. He has played a key role in strengthening the organization and moving NESF forward in several key areas, says Jørstad.
– “We appreciate the effort he has put in, and we’re also pleased that the dialogue is continuing on how his expertise can continue to be utilized in the new phase the organization is now entering,”, says the president.
The merger and restructuring process will begin immediately, and a transitional board will use the month of April to clarify responsibilities and organizational structure effective May 1, 2026.
